Florida 2-15 License: Jobs You Can Get and How to Earn Them

By Sandra King November 28, 2025

The Florida 2-15 Health & Life (Including Annuities & Variable Contracts) license lets you work as an insurance agent who helps people protect their health, income, and future.

With this license, you can sell health insurance, life insurance, and annuities, and you can build a long-term career in the insurance and financial-services industry.

This page explains what the 2-15 license allows you to do, the types of jobs that use it, and the main steps to get licensed, starting with your online pre-licensing course through OnLine Training (OLT).

What the Florida 2-15 license allows

Florida calls the 2-15 license “Health & Life (Including Annuities & Variable Contracts).” It is a resident agent license. This means you are approved by the state to represent insurance companies and work with customers in Florida.

With a 2-15 license, you can:

  • Sell and service health insurance plans, including individual and group medical coverage.
  • Sell life insurance policies that help families replace income and cover final expenses.
  • Sell annuity products, including variable annuities, which are often used for savings and retirement income.

The Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) explains that each license type has a common use, the laws that apply to it, and the steps to get and keep the license.

Jobs that use the 2-15 license

Because the 2-15 is a major-lines license for both life and health, many Florida employers look for people who have it.

On job sites like Indeed, you will see job listings Indeed – Agent 215 Jobs in Florida, Indeed – 215 Licensed Insurance Agent Jobs, Indeed – 215 License Jobs in Tamp

Here are common jobs you can get with a 2-15 license:

  • Insurance Agent or 2-15 Licensed Insurance Agent: You sell life and health insurance and help clients choose coverage. You may work for one company (captive) or several companies (independent).
  • Medicare or Health Insurance Agent: You help people enroll in Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, ACA marketplace plans, and other health products.
  • Financial Services Representative or Junior Financial Advisor: You use life insurance and annuities as part of a bigger plan to help clients protect income and save for retirement.

There are both in-office and remote jobs, full-time and part-time, with pay that often includes commissions and bonuses. This gives motivated agents a chance to increase their income as they gain experience and build a client base.

Where 2-15 agents work and how careers grow

With a 2-15 license, you can work in many types of organizations, such as:

  • Local insurance agencies in your town or city.
  • Large regional or national insurance companies.
  • Call centers and agencies that serve clients by phone or online.
  • Health-plan organizations and financial-services firms.

As you gain experience, you can also move into leadership roles, such as being the designated agent in charge for an insurance agency, when you meet the legal requirements.

As you grow in your career, you can:

  • Focus on a niche, like Medicare, small-business employee benefits, or retirement income planning.
  • Take continuing education courses in life, health, and annuities to keep your license active and your knowledge up to date.
  • Add other credentials, such as securities licenses, so you can offer a wider range of financial services while still using your 2-15 license for insurance products.

How to get your Florida 2-15 license: main steps

DFS provides official information on each license, including the 2-15, and explains the steps to become licensed. Always check the DFS website before you start, because rules and fees can change.

1. Make sure you qualify

To get a resident insurance license in Florida, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Live in Florida as a legal resident.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident with permission to work and a valid Social Security number.
  • Have good character and pass a background check, which includes fingerprinting.

2. Take your required 2-15 pre-licensing course with OLT

Florida requires you to complete an approved pre-licensing course (or meet an exemption) before you can get a 2-15 license. For this license, the required course is 60 hours.

OnLine Training (OLT) offers this 60-hour Florida Health and Life (Including Annuities & Variable Contracts) 2-15 pre-licensing course online. You sign up through oltraining.com, and you complete the lessons on OLT’s learning site, oltschool.com.

The OLT course:

  • Is built to match Florida’s 2-15 requirements and is fully online and self-paced.
  • Gives you several months of access so you can study when it fits your schedule.
  • Includes structured lessons, practice questions, and instructor support to help you learn and get ready for the exam.

3. Finish your OLT course and get your certificate

To receive credit for your pre-licensing education, you must complete all lessons and pass the final course exam with at least a 70%.

After you pass, OLT gives you a certificate of completion and reports your course completion to the state so it is on record for your license process.

It is smart to move forward to the state exam soon after you finish the course, because your education must be completed within certain time limits.

4. Schedule and pass the Florida 2-15 state exam

Florida uses a testing company (Pearson VUE) to give insurance exams. Use this link to download the official instructions (as of Nov 2025). You can find how to create an account, schedule your exam, pay fees, and choose a test center or online proctored exam.

The 2-15 exam checks your knowledge of health insurance, life insurance, annuities, Florida laws, and agent responsibilities.

Once you finish your OLT course, you should:

  • Schedule your exam soon, while the material is still fresh.
  • Review your course notes and any state-law sections as you prepare.

5. Get fingerprinted and apply for your license in MyProfile

To complete your license, you must submit electronic fingerprints through an approved fingerprinting vendor and file your online license application through the DFS MyProfile system.

MyProfile is DFS’s online portal where you apply for licenses, check status, print licenses, and manage compliance.

In general, you will:

  • Arrange electronic fingerprinting so DFS can complete your background check.
  • Submit your 2-15 license application in MyProfile, pay your fees, and make sure your exam result and course completion match your application.

After DFS reviews your records and approves you, your 2-15 license will appear in MyProfile and you can print it and verify your status.

Starting your 2-15 career

Once you have your Florida 2-15 license, you can begin applying for jobs where a “215” or “Health & Life” license is required.

On job sites, you will see roles in insurance agencies, call centers, Medicare and ACA enrollment, employee benefits, and financial-services firms that use life insurance and annuities in their planning.

By starting with an approved online pre-licensing course from OnLine Training, you follow the rules set by Florida DFS and give yourself a strong foundation to pass the exam and start a growing career as a 2-15 licensed agent.
